Treatment Methods

Improvement of the mobility and stability of the spine plays an important role in the vast majority of complaints that the chiropractor sees. Improving the functioning of the spine, the surrounding muscles and the outgoing nerves can be done in several ways. Depending on the complaint, the cause, age and general health of the patient, a specific treatment technique is chosen. In addition, you may be prescribed exercises, posture advice, or dietary guidelines. It is not uncommon to have a reaction after treatment. For example, you may feel tired or a little stiff and the pain may even increase for the first few days. There is often immediate relief. Are you concerned about the response or want to know what to do about it? feel free to call the practice. One of the chiropractors can then give you an explanation.

MANIPULATIONS

A commonly used technique is manipulating / correcting the spine. Fast specific pressure techniques promote the mobility of the spine. Such a correction is often accompanied by the escape of gas from the joints that have been set in motion (this can be compared to the snapping of the fingers that people sometimes want to do) and can give a cracking sound. This is almost always painless.

ACTIVATOR TECHNOLOGY

The activator is a device that gives an impulse to the spine or other joints. This impulse is given at high speed and with precision. Its depth and speed can be adjusted. The activator is an aid for the chiropractor. It is mainly used as an adjunct to manipulation and in the treatment of the elderly, children and babies.

SACRAL-OCCIPITAL TECHNIQUE

The sacrum (sacrum) is the base of the spine. The biomechanics, neurology and physiology of the human body function better when the pelvis is in balance. The sacrum has a joint with the pelvis on both sides (SI joints). The position and mobility of the pelvis can be corrected by means of blocks (triangular pads). This allows the balance between sacrum / sacrum and occiput / back of the head to be restored, so that the nervous system has the opportunity to function optimally.

FLEXION DISTRACTION ACCORDING TO COX

This technique combines 2 biomechanical models, axial traction and flexion, for the treatment of low back pain. The method is often used in patients with low back pain, sciatica or a hernia. The patient lies on the stomach and the lower part of the table is moved up and down. The chiropractor manually applies counter pressure at the desired level of the spine. For example, flexion distraction can be applied specifically. This stretches the ligaments at the back of the spine, increasing movement between the facet joints and the space in the nerve canal. This method is often used for complaints such as arthrosis, hernia and stenosis.

THOMPSON DROP TECHNOLOGY

This is a technique in which special treatment tables are used that support and reinforce the corrections. The cushions of the table spring a short distance when the correction is made. The table absorbs the power of the correction. This technique uses a specific part of the chiropractic treatment table. The table is divided into sections, the head, chest, lumbar and pelvic part. The cushions of these sections can each be individually lifted 1-2 cm by means of a hydraulic system. For this purpose there is a compressor in each treatment room.

MEDICAL TAPING

Medical taping is the collective name for taping with elastic tape. Medical taping is used in after-treatment of injuries, the reduction of inflammation or fluid retention, posture correction and the treatment of overload complaints. Medical taping is therefore a treatment method that is supplementary to the existing treatment methods.

DRY NEEDLING

Medical taping is the collective name for taping with elastic tape. Medical taping is used in after-treatment of injuries, the reduction of inflammation or fluid retention, posture correction and the treatment of overload complaints. Medical taping is therefore a treatment method that is supplementary to the existing treatment methods.

MEDICAL TAPING

Dry needling is a treatment technique in which muscle knots (trigger points) are punctured with a thin needle. It is very effective for relaxing the entire muscle. Dry needling is not the same as acupuncture. Trigger points cause cramp in the muscle, causing it to shorten. This can cause complaints: muscle pain, tendon irritation, limited movement patterns. Dry needling reduces pain and optimizes the movement pattern of the muscle.

HOW DO TRIGGER POINTS ARISE?

The most common cause is long-term heavy strain on the muscle, for example due to a long-term incorrect (working) posture, wrong lifestyle habits or sports. Trigger points are very painful when touched or when the muscle is stretched. Trigger points prevent the supply of nutrients and the removal of waste products, causing the muscle to cramp and weaken the muscle.

COMPLAINTS SUITABLE FOR DRY NEEDLING

• back, neck and shoulder pain
• muscle stiffness or cramps
• heel spur
• tennis elbow
• tension headache
• radiating pain in legs and / or arms

THE TREATMENT

During the treatment, a thin (acupuncture) needle is inserted into the affected muscle. This is basically painless. However, there may be a cramping feeling briefly when the muscle is punctured. Nothing is injected into the muscle. At chiropractic Wassenaar, dry needling is used in addition to the chiropractic treatment for optimal results.

Talk to your chiropractor about whether you could benefit from dry needling.

FUNCTIONAL NEUROLOGY (FN)

The chiropractor is a university educated expert in the field of spinal complaints. There are different specializations within chiropractic, just as in medicine. Functional neurology is one of these specializations. Chiropractors with this specialization put the nervous system (brain and spinal cord) at the center of their analysis and interventions.

The FN chiropractor has various options for improving complaints and symptoms. In addition to regular chiropractic treatments, we often work with eye motor training, balance and vestibular exercises. These possibilities or interventions are based on modern scientific research from different scientific fields. Typical examples of complaints where pathology is not always clear, but where a functional neurological approach can be extremely valuable:

• Migraine
• Post concussion syndrome
• Dizziness
