The NCA-chiropractor

This year our professional association is celebrating its 50th anniversary! The NCA is the oldest and largest of the professional associations.
You can find all affiliated practices on http://www.nca.nl. If you recommend a family member or acquaintance to also visit a chiropractor, this is the website! Unless they live nearby of course, then we would love to see them.
The NCA sets strict quality requirements, so you always know that the chiropractor has completed a recognized training and that good Dutch is spoken.

Prof. Dr. Sidney Rubinstein appointed as special professor at the VU

On April 24, our colleague chiropractor and NCA member Prof. Dr. Sidney Rubinstein will be appointed as special professor. He will accept his position by delivering the speech: Balance in Motion: Towards Optimization of Care. Margreet will attend this special day on behalf of our practice (so she will not be present at the practice on April 24).

Gardening season has started

The gardening season has started and this means that many will be enthusiastically getting back to work after a long inactive winter period. In practice, we see many injuries and complaints during this time. Hence these tips and advice to start the gardening season as well as possible.

  1. Make sure you divide your gardening activities into parts. This will help you prevent overload in the same position. Take regular breaks.
  2. This applies in particular to, for example doing a hedge, where you have to reach a bit further (this puts a strain on the region between the shoulder blades).
  3. When weeding or planting bulbs/seeds, sit on 1 knee, not on both knees. This prevents you from leaning too far forward and overloading the back muscles and vertebrae.
  4. When lifting or digging, make sure you pull your belly button in slightly (tighten your abdominal muscles) to stabilize your spine.
  5. Try to avoid bending and twisting at the same time.
  6. When raking or hoeing, try switching sides/hands to prevent overload.
  7. When lifting heavier things, it helps if you can ask for assistance (for example, with a plant in a pot or bags of potting soil). Unfortunately, I see many people who thought: “I can do that”, only to have back pain afterwards.
  8. In case of minor complaints after work, you can initially cool the area. Make sure that there is always something between the cool pack and the skin. Longer than 10 minutes per hour is not necessary.
  9. After a day of physical work, relax by lying on your back with your lower legs supported on a chair. This way, your hips and knees end up at a 90° angle.
  10. Do you still have complaints? Do not hesitate to make an appointment with us!

NVA Autism week

From March 29 to April 5, is the NVA Autism Week! This year’s theme is ‘space for autism’.
Did you know that our NeuroBalance program can often help children with autism? Through a combination of chiropractic, reflex integration (passive and active exercises), training with the Interactive Metronome and sensory integration, the nervous system is better balanced. This can help with language development, impulse control and concentration, for example. The program is adapted to the age and development of the child.
