Hernia

A hernia is a protruded disc which can trap a nerve. A hernia is usually caused by the improper functioning of the spinal column over a long period of time. A herniated disc can occur at any level in the spine but is most common in the lower back. This usually causes pain in the back or buttock which radiates into the leg.

The chiropractor can play an important role in the treatment of hernias. The type of hernia and severity of complaints determine as to how fast a patient recovers. An operation is only a consideration in cases of progressive loss of nerve function and/or unbearable pain.
