Opening hours during Christmas holidays and chiropractor holidays
The practice is closed on December 25th and 26th and on January 1st. On December 31st, we are open until 12:00 noon.
Chiropractor Imke van Loon is on vacation from December 24th to January 4th. Chiropractor Margreet Leemhuis is on vacation from January 9th to 25th.
If one of the chiropractors is absent, the other two will cover. All your information is in your file, so don’t hesitate to make an appointment. There’s no need to continue to suffer while your regular practitioner is on vacation!
What is smartphone neck?
The term “smartphone neck” refers to neck pain caused by prolonged hunched over a smartphone or tablet. The average head weighs 5 kilos (11 pounds), but when hunched over, the pressure on the cervical vertebrae can increase to 20 kilos (44 pounds) or more. This can lead to pain in the neck, shoulders, arms, and even headaches.
In our practice, we see a growing number of patients, especially young people, with these complaints. Below are some tips to minimize the damage:
1. Lying on your stomach
Watching videos on your phone or tablet? You can also do this while lying on your stomach, as this actually trains the neck and back muscles!
2. Keep screen at eye level
Preferably keep the screen at eye level. For a laptop, this means using a laptop stand, and for a phone, keep your arm slightly elevated or prop the phone up.
3. The 20-20 rule
This rule has nothing to do with screen time, but everything to do with posture: change your position for 20 seconds every 20 minutes. A quick stretch, shoulder rolls, or a short walk to the fridge or the sandwich maker… Movement is key. For exercise inspiration, check out our website or YouTube channel (with the correct posture, of course!)
