Treatment of Vertigo (BPPV)

Vertigo is a common complaint for which people seek help in our practice. By far the most common cause of vertigo is BPPV. This is a condition of the balance system in which crystals are displaced and the registration of head movements is affected by giving incorrect signals. These incorrect signals lead to vertigo.
Certain head movements trigger vertigo. This is often caused by getting out of bed, lying down or turning in bed and bending over.
As mentioned, BPPV is common. It is therefore to be expected that healthcare providers are well acquainted with this. Unfortunately, this is certainly not the case. Misdiagnosis is common or people receive the correct diagnosis but not the correct treatment.
The treatment in which the crystals are manoeuvred into the correct place is extremely effective: 70-90% of people recover within 2 till 3 sessions! For most people, the symptoms are then under control within a week. Sometimes patients relapse.
New research indicates that this chance is much higher if someone has a too low vitamin D level. Vitamin D deficiency is widespread in society, as you may know. In order to achieve an optimal result in recovery from BPPV, it is therefore strongly recommended to take extra vitamin D. The amount varies per individual and depends on the blood levels of vitamin D.
In short, with BPPV: do not hesitate, but book an appointment! Get treatment, then it will be gone as soon as possible. And take vitamin D, especially if the blood levels are low!

Thompson Drop Technique Explanation (the “Clap” of the Bench)

This is a technique in which special treatment tables are used, which support and reinforce the corrections. The cushions of the table spring back a short distance when the correction is performed. The table absorbs the force of the correction. This technique uses a specific part of the chiropractic treatment table.
The table is divided into sections, the head, chest, lumbar and pelvic parts. The cushions of these sections can each be lifted 1-2 cm separately by means of a hydraulic system. For this purpose, there is a compressor in each treatment room.
This technique is most commonly used for the treatment of pelvic and lower back problems, but can be applied to any joint.
For the treatment of a knee or ankle, for example, we also regularly use the “Mini-drop” (see photo).

Appointments must be changed at least 48 Hours in Advance!

In recent years we have noticed that people are increasingly quick to change appointments or cancel appointments too late. The chiropractors’ schedule requires careful planning so that our regular patients can always be seen quickly, but also so that new patients can be helped as soon as possible. We therefore ask you to contact us at least 48 hours in advance if you need to change your appointment. It is best not to change your appointments without an urgent reason.

Chiropractic Treatment for Pregnant Women

People in our practice regularly ask whether you can also receive chiropractic treatment when you are pregnant. The answer is yes! Not only can you receive treatment, it even has advantages if you are treated by a chiropractor when you are pregnant.
Chiropractors can correct deviations in the spine and pelvis and ensure that optimal freedom of movement is maintained. Because special techniques are used, pregnant women can be treated until the last day of pregnancy. Studies have shown that women experience less pain during childbirth and have a shorter labor period when they are treated by a chiropractor during pregnancy.
